Teens interested in starting their own businesses will learn what it takes to bring new products or services to market, and how entrepreneurship can have a positive impact on their communities, at the Teen Entrepreneur Challenge summer camp, July 23-29.
"Is Entrepreneurship in my DNA?" That was the overarching theme of Penn State Lehigh Valley’s latest LaunchBox Ladies event touting three highly motivated PSU-LV students who’ve already started their own venture or are part of a family business.
Penn State students visited Washington, D.C. the weekend of April 1-3 as part of a trip planned by the Global Engagement Team within Penn State Global. The student group was a diverse mixture of students from across the commonwealth, with 30 domestic students and 145 international students representing 31 countries.
Because of state support, Penn State’s in-state tuition savings impact 45,000 students annually, making higher education possible for many Pennsylvanians. “In-state tuition is helping so many families all across Pennsylvania,” said Penn State Lehigh Valley student Kriday Sharma, a business major from Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.
Lehigh Valley LaunchBox powered by Penn State will host its seventh annual Teen Entrepreneur Challenge July 5-10 at the Perkiomen School in Pennsburg. This year’s theme is “The Future of Work: The Gig Economy, the Creator Economy and Remote Work.”
Eight Advisory Board members from Lehigh Valley LaunchBox powered by Penn State have created a $145,000 endowment to sustain the business accelerator's long-term efforts. The board members contributed $72,500 to the fund, which was matched by Penn State.
Penn State Lehigh Valley's THON team, led by student dancers Brianna Peters, Alexis Matlack, Rhea Kochhar and Tyler Mantz, came in second place fundraising-wise among Commonwealth Campuses, tallying a grand total of $43,978.94 in donations, at the 50th annual THON.
Penn State Lehigh Valley alumnus Tom Carson is putting his degree in rehabilitation and human services to good use in his current job as associate executive director of Victory House of Lehigh Valley, a nonprofit organization that provides shelter and transitional services to homeless men.
Penn State President Eric Barron and a panel of local and industry leaders and entrepreneurs appeared in Harrisburg on Nov. 9 for a hearing of the Pennsylvania Senate Community, Economic and Recreational Development Committee. Titled “Improving Pennsylvania's Innovation Economy: Invent Penn State,” the hearing focused on Penn State’s efforts to drive economic development, job creation, entrepreneurship and innovation, and student career success through the Invent Penn State initiative.
Penn State Lehigh Valley LaunchBox is the lead sponsor of the third annual StartUp Lehigh Valley Entrepreneur Pitch Competition, which will take place Wednesday, Oct. 27, at Factory LLC in Bethlehem.
